Upgrading from 3.1.9
by fpuser / at 09:32 on December 5, 2005

For those of us who are using Siteframe 3.1.9 via Fantastico on Cpanel, is it likely there'll be a fix where existing installs will be automatically upgraded to beaumont?

Thanks for ur help.

Peter

Highly doubtful

V5 is a totally rewritten creature. I have provided some support for migrating from V3 to Beaumont via the administrator's menu, but it is not a complete migration in any sense of the word.

  • Templates in V3 do not work in V5; V3 had a proprietary template language, and V5 uses the Smarty template engine.
  • The underlying data, while similar, is structured quite differently than in V3.
  • V5 requires MySQL 4.1, which, even though it's three years old, is still fairly uncommon in hosting environments. V3 would work with MySQL 3.23.
  • V5 requires PHP5 which, again, is still pretty uncommon in hosting environments.

I don't know how Fantastico works, and I've never been contacted by anyone who maintains it, but I really hope they don't attempt an automated upgrade, but I'm not sure how that could be done.

FYI - 3.1.9 has a serious security hole and should be upraded to 3.2.2 as soon as practical. People have had their sites wiped out. See the "Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability" article on this website.

Thanks for ur advice. The thing is I have two groups of adult learners who are using siteframe as a way of communicating, and one of these groups will continue their studies through to late 2007 so I want to make sure that the material they're posting can continue to flourish over the next circa. 2 years. As I am using fantastico for the autoinstall of siteframe (I tried to install beamont on the servers I rent just now... but it failed to work something to do with ext/mysql not being available)so hence the dependence on Cpanel and Fantastico...

Thanks for your advice again.

Just FYI - I will continue to support V3 as best as I can, but I don't expect any new development to occur on that branch, but mainly bug and security fixes as tne need arises.

Thanks

Thanks for the reassurance...

As an aside, Fantastico have not updated to 3.2.2 My sites are "protected" by being members only, so that's helpful in the short term...

Best wishes

siteframe 3.1.9
by fpuser / at 07:34 on January 18, 2006

Hi Glen

I have just created another siteframe account. After setting up successfully, I cannot get teh site to recognise the "logout" functionality. Hence I alone as administrator can login, but I cannot logout...

Have you any suggestions of what I should change/amend?

Thanks

Peter
